The steel used for Baustahlgewebe products is produced in an electric arc furnace almost entirely from iron and steel scrap. In 2025, a recycling rate of 96.6% was achieved in the production of wire rod at our steelworks in Kehl (in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14021).
Steel produced in this way is characterized by a high degree of recyclability. During recycling, its material properties can largely be preserved. The recycling systems required for this process have been well established for many years.
In addition, the CO₂ emissions associated with this process are, on average, 70% to 80% lower than those of the conventional blast furnace route (source: World Steel Association, Steel Statistical Yearbook 2022. Worldsteel. Section: Energy use and CO₂ emissions by route, pp. 24 - 26).
All production sites implement environmental and energy management systems in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14001 and DIN EN ISO 50001.
These standards require not only technical and organisational measures to improve environmental performance but also, in particular, regular training and qualification of employees to act in an environmentally conscious manner.
